Men's Day Out at the Nosh!

We would like to remember all of our loyal fabric followers that we have a special event coming up at the shop! Men's Day Out at the Nosh is being held on December 8th, from 3-5pm.
This is perfect for those male friends of our sewing savvy customers. Do you need a little help with deciding what to get your lady friend? Does she sew or quilt? Do you think she might like to learn?
Come into the Nosh on December 8th and let the ladies at the shop do all the work for you! All you need to do is come in with a list or a few ideas of what your lady might like as a gift. We will keep busy while you relax and enjoy a few snacks that we'll have waiting for you. We'll even turn the daily football game on our computer screen and turn it around for your viewing pleasure.

Let's not forget to mention that on Men's Day Out, we'll be offering a special on our gift certificates - $100 gift certificate for only $80! This is perfect because then your lady friend will be able to purchase exactly what she'd like, or even use that certificate towards a class.  And you'll save some money, as well!

Small Business Saturday Is Next Week

Dear fellow fabric aficionados,

We'd like to remind you that next Saturday, November 24th, is Small Business Saturday. Did you know that 89% of consumers believe that small businesses contribute positively to their local community?* This is your chance to take back the big spending that goes into large corporate companies, and circulate your money throughout your local community. Small businesses like ours can sometimes struggle to compete with the big companies that offer those wild, reduced prices for a short period of time. We work hard at what we do to bring you the best that our shops can offer. We know that you recognize our solid attempts and we appreciate that!

We are having a "BOGO" event on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday - while you are out shopping, come visit us and find that our books are buy one, get one half off. This excludes books that are currently on sale.

Fabric Nosherie will be open from 10am-4pm, and we hope that you will support us as a small business. It's your love and generosity and creativity that keep us going strong.

The Holidays Are Coming!

Hello, everyone!
We haven't written in a while and we're due for an update. The holidays are quickly approaching. New things are happening at the Nosherie.
I think it's time to introduce myself as a new member of the Fabric Nosherie family.  My name is Jill, and I've just started here at the Nosh. I'm a Saint Louis native, with long ties to the Webster Groves area. I'm crafty and creative by nature. I have a BFA in graphic design but I also love working with my hands as opposed to just sitting in front of a computer. I am still working on my sewing skills, and this is just the place to do that! I am enjoying every minute of working here.

We have a couple events coming up that we wanted to remind you about! This coming Sunday is Webster Grove's annual Holiday Walk and Open House. From 10am-5pm on Sunday, November 11th, shops around the area will be open for your shopping pleasure. There will be carriage rides, trolleys, and it is even rumored that Santa Claus will make an appearance.

Coming up in December we also have our Men's Day Out. This day is perfect for the guys out there who might need a little help with their holiday shopping. Are you tired of getting your lady last minute "safe" gifts? Pop into the Nosh on December 8th from 3-5pm. We will have chips 'n dip for you to enjoy while the ladies of the Nosh do the work for you. All you'll need is an idea of what your lady desires - whether it be a notion or two (items like scissors, pins, tape measures, etc), a few fat quarters, or a yard or two of fabric. You are welcome to pop into the shop a few days or weeks early - we have paper "wish lists" on our counter that your lady could fill out so you know exactly what she'd like from us.

Don't forget to check out all of the classes we are offering this month and in December.
You can find a list and the details of each class, as well as register for them, at our website:

Whats new in the shop!!

I know, I know....school just got out.  I mean, its been so cool lately it feels like fall, not summer but we've already got fall fabrics in. I just couldn't help myself.  Look at how playful Lizzy House's Halloween fabrics are.  I can think of at least a few things I want to make with these.  Can you?  And in case you're wondering about Holiday fabrics - the answer is yes to that, we do have some in and displayed already.  You know what they say......ummm....a little help here, I actually don't know what they say but either way, we have it in if you want a big jump start on Christmas.
Yes, this picture is taken from Fat Quarter Shop but my picture didn't turn out so well and this is just the funnest fabric.  My favorite is the "pattern piece" square.  I love the greens and greys/browns.  Thinking about making a garment bag out of it.
These fabrics will be in by the end of the month.  This is a new designer...at least new to me.  I love all the different color options.  This is a nice substitute for batiks and we are excited to be getting 9 bolts in!

Things have been quiet around here.  Is everyone alive?!?  I sure hope so....you're starting to worry me a little.  Hopefully with school ending and summer beginning you'll get settled and work out your calendar to have a special sewing day, just you and your machine.  Tell your kids you're in time out, lock the door and start creating.

See you all soon!

To Market To Market

Market was as always, crazy, busy, inspiring, tiring, exciting and of course super duper fun!  Miriam even got to come along with me and if you're not sure who Miriam is you need to come in to the shop to meet her.  She is THE best manager anyone could ever have.  Needless to say, we had a pretty good time.  I wanted to post some pictures of things that we saw and a little taste of what we'll be getting in this summer.  I hope you all like what we picked out for you!!

These new zipper pouch patterns are from Oliver + S and are ADORABLE.  I love the that the zippers have a bone, or fish on them.  Super creative.
 Anna Maria Horner.  Yes please!
This picture doesn't do the fabric justice but these are the coolest fabrics.  They remind me of batiks but not so much. That makes total sense, right?!?  I'm not a fan of batiks but I think this is a wonderful bridge between those who love batiks and those who don't so much.  These will be coming soon.
And for those who think quilters are sweet, quiet ladies...think again.  This is insane!!  This is called Fabric Spree the night before market starts.  This is where there are vendors that have their fabric lower then wholesale and you grab what you can grab.  I did this once, and was scared for my life.
Melody Miller.  I want her entire booth.  This is totally my style.  I want the couch for the shop but for some reason she wasn't willing to give it to me.  Can't imagine why....Her fabrics will be here late summer.  Not sure I can wait!
One of the things about market that is fun is the way that everyone does their booths.  Some are simple, and as shown here, some are not.  Its great to bring to life the vendor/designer/distributors personality to the show.  This was Michael Miller's booth.  They always have fun props.  Look at these elephants.  So fun!

I do have more pictures and can't wait to share those with you.  While we were there Miriam and I were so inspired and had ideas after ideas on how to make the shop a better place for you.  Things you may want to see and events that you may want to attend.  I enjoy going and learning all I can.  Believe it or not, its not all fun booths that are my favorite but its the business classes where I get the most fun.  Thank you for allowing us to be in business and for your creativity and excitement.  You all are our inspiration.

Block of the Month

We are starting a block of the month in May and are excited to offer this modern BOM to our fellow modern quilters.  We will be using the Book Modern Blocks as our inspiration and for our block patterns. The rules are regulations are painless:  Pick up your block ANYTIME during the month.  To see a demonstration of the block of the month, come to Fabric Nosherie the second Monday of every month to see it demoed PLUS you can sit and use our studio to finish your block, meet new friends and eat some goodies.  The cost is $14 a month and there is a $15 set up cost.  Be prepared to learn new blocks, use new, modern fabrics and have lots of fun.

On a different note we have our kids sewing camps up for the summer.  We have two fantastic kids teachers that have come up with some amazing projects!  Feel free to stop in for more details.

On a different different side note we are heading to market in 3 weeks!!  Let the anticipation begin.  We want to hear from you.  What do you want to see more of in the shop?  Any particular designer?  What about types of fabrics?  More flannels? More Voiles or laminates?  And how about books/patterns?  More quilts, more project based...easier, harder.   We want to shop for our customers so any feedback would be great.

And one more exciting note:  Miriam and I are heading to Nashville in October to have a sewing weekend with one of our favorite designers....Anna Maria Horner!!!  YAY!  We an hardly wait to come back and teach everyone what she teaches us.  We'll fill everyone in as it gets closer.

Take care and happy sewing!

It's been a while!

We have been so busy lately I've had no time to post! Between the fabric bounce and abundance of classes, time has sped by - I can't believe summer is approaching so fast! The store is decked out with a lot of wonderful, new fabrics - if you haven't visited us lately, come check them out!!

Most of you know we had our ShopHop on March 29th-31st and it was great! It's always nice to see SO many familiar faces drop in as well as newbies! And if you were lucky enough to be an early bird, you walked away with some deals! Thanks to all who stopped by!

Speaking of summer being around the corner, our May schedule is now out! See which of the various classes interests you, possibly the multitasker bag?

Also, I am excited to announce that we will be hosting a summer camp for kids! What better way for them to stay cool this upcoming season than to develop and/or advance their sewing skills? Stay tuned for more info!

Not only do we have new fabrics, but also fresh projects displayed throughout the store. Our first block of the month starts in May! Here's a sneak peak of what we've got so far - come in to see and find out more:
